March, 2007

IN THIS ISSUE:

Website Login

Some of you have asked about the website login process. If you are either a member or a guest of PPN, you are already in the system. The first time you login to the new website, you will use your email address for both your login ID and for your password. Then the system will prompt you to change your password. You should also establish a security question and answer in the event you need to reset your password in the future.

Please take a minute to thank our webmaster, Mary Shaw. This is her volunteer service for PPN, and she has done a marvelous job!

Walton Feed

We are now accepting orders for Walton Feed. The cutoff will be March 31st with the payment also due by March 31st. Delivery will be on Saturday, May 5th, at the Latigo Trails Equestrian Center off Meridian Rd. Due to high demand, we've arranged for two trucks this year. When the first truck is full (about 42,000 pounds), we will take orders for the second truck. PPN must receive enough orders to cover the additional cost of the second truck in order to honor the orders that will go on the second truck.

This year we are pleased to offer a dozen items that can be purchased in individual #2.5 cans to allow you to try products in small quantities. They are:

Mix–Vegetable Stew Blend

Tomato–Powder

Sour Cream–Powder

Eggs–Whole

Cheese–Cheddar

Butter–Powder

Imitation Meat–Beef Flavored

Imitation Meat–Taco Flavored

Fruit–Peach Dices

Mix–Vanilla Pudding

Peanut Butter–Powder

Mix–Spanish Rice Gravy

The #10 cans will only be sold by the case this year. If you research products through the Walton Feed site, www.waltonfeed.com, please keep in mind that we cannot offer every item in every size. Given their 1200+ inventory, we will do our best to offer most items in at least one size.

Shipping charges will be ten cents per pound this year. While this is an increase over last year, it is well under commercial carrier rates and reflects our commitment to always provide the best at the lowest cost. This increase is largely due to a significant increase from our trucking company this year along with the need to move the delivery day to an indoor location.

With the potential weight for this order around 84,000 pounds and one day to process the shipment, we will need lots of help. If you place an order, please help in some way. You will find many options available. Some of you will not be able to help for various reasons. If you have never volunteered with PPN before, you may be excused from this shipment on a case-by-case basis. This timetable is based on PPN placing a large order. If the order is substantially smaller, times for the afternoon shifts and pick up hours will be adjusted.

Please review the volunteer opportunities and carefully read the information included. The most difficult shift to fill will be the 7am to noon slot because you will not be able to pick up your order before you leave. However, it is critical that we have enough help during this time. Perhaps you and a neighbor could help each other; one could volunteer in the morning and the second could volunteer in the afternoon, picking up both orders.

1.  Administrative Assistance: Total volunteers needed - 7.

a.  Two to four volunteers: At the McKean home (Briargate area) on Thursday evening, May 3, or Friday during the day, May 4. Compare the truck inventory with the PPN order to look for differences in price, items not sent, and items substituted. Will work in teams of two.

b.  One volunteer: During the week prior to delivery one member to make phone calls from their phone to PPN members as needed. Note: some of these calls will be long distance.

c.  One volunteer: A member experienced in label making to print and prepare nametags the week prior to delivery. The member will need proper software on their computer. This task will be completed at member’s own home.

d.  One volunteer: On stand-by to help with last minute administrative needs. Be able to help run errands or help with paperwork at the McKean home (Briargate area) on Friday, May 4th.

2.  Food Crew to help Cindy Beeston. Total volunteers needed - 4 to 6.

Help prepare food and come to the delivery site to serve either the morning or afternoon crew. (Morning crew 7 am to noon. Afternoon crew noon to 6 pm).

3.  May 5th, 7am to noon, Morning Crew: Total volunteers needed - 30.

Help unload pallets, sort the products and assist with inventory. A forklift brings the pallets to the staging area. Must be able to lift 25 to 50 pounds. (A full bucket is about 50 lbs.) Minimum age is 15. Drinks and food will be provided. NOTE: You will not be able to pick up your order at noon. Please plan to return during pick up time (4 to 6 pm) or arrange for another member to pick up your order.

4.  May 5th, noon to 6 pm, Afternoon Crew: Total volunteers needed – 30.

Volunteers will work in teams to fill individual orders and load orders into cars. It would be helpful to have previous Walton delivery experience for this crew, but not a requirement. Minimum age is 15. Drinks and food will be provided. Those with previous Walton delivery experience are encouraged to sign up for this crew.

5.  May 5th, 3:30 to 6 pm, Loading Crew: Total volunteers needed - approx. 12.

Help the teams load individual orders into vehicles. Must be able to lift items up to 50 lbs. Minimum age is 15.

6.  May 5th, 3:30 to 6:15 pm, Traffic Management Crew: Total volunteers needed - 6.

Assist Paul McKean in greeting members, directing traffic into and out of the grounds and building (Yes, with this indoor facility, members will drive in to pick up their orders). Recommended to those who want to help, but should not be lifting. Adults only. Will be outdoors.

7.  May 5th, 5:30 pm, Pick up pallets. Total volunteers needed - 1 or 2 depending on order size.

Bring your own vehicle or trailer and pick up pallets for personal use or take to business to sell. D & J Pallet Inc., located at 3665 US Highway 85 (which is about 1.5 miles south of the World Arena) will buy pallets starting at $2.25 for those in best condition and prices go down from there. Volunteers may keep the money received to cover gas expenses. Depending on group order size, we will have between 25 and 50 pallets.

8.       8.  May 5th, 5:30-6:30 pm, Clean Up Crew. Total volunteers needed - 4.

Help to load tables, empty pallets, clean up area, put away traffic cones, etc. Minimum age is 15.

9.       9.   May 5th, 6:30 am and 6 pm, Table Crew. Total volunteers needed - 1.

Provide about one dozen folding tables. Bring in the morning and pick up at the end of the day.

10. Cannot help, but have volunteered with PPN in the past.

We appreciate your past service and look forward to seeing you in the future.

11. Cannot help, and have never volunteered for PPN.

Please give a brief reason for not volunteering this time. We realize that there are some conflicts or limitations that cannot be avoided. For families involved with Saturday sports, please again review the volunteer opportunities and try to find something you can work into the schedule. While it is not a requirement to help with every order, we want to encourage you to find a way to contribute to this all-volunteer organization.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me at RosaliaMc@aol.com.

Grocery Coupons

Where to Get Grocery Coupons:

1) In the Sunday paper. Denver Post has a Sunday only delivery for REALLY
cheap. I get the Gazette and it's slightly more expensive.

2) From websites. When Albertsons had their General Mills 10/$10 sale, I
printed several coupons off of GM's box tops for education website. You can
print more than one copy of each coupon.

3) In the mail. Visit websites of your favorite brands and see if they have
a mailing list. I love getting mail from Kraft, Dove, Gerber, Huggies, and
Pampers. They always contain great coupons. Make sure you're on mailing
lists for your grocery stores too- King Soopers and Safeway have sent out
fantastic coupons recently.

4) In the store. Once Albertsons had their GM cereal 10/$10 and also had
coupons for $1/2 boxes sticking out in those little coupon dispensers.
Yippee! Cereal for 50 cents a box.

5) In your Gold C or Entertainment books. Each book has 4 coupons for $5
off a $50 purchase at Safeway. These coupons are honored at Albertsons and
King Soopers too, but not at Wal-Mart.

6) On product packages. I love the coupons that come on butter packages
(usually for more butter!). I recently bought boxes of Cheerios at Safeway
for $1 a box (after coupon) that also had coupons for free boxes of granola
bars. Yippee!

7) At checkout. Each store has fancy schmancy computers that analyze the
products you tend to buy and prints out coupons for you to use at your next
purchase. Walgreens prints out a $3 off any package of jumbo Pampers
diapers every time I check out. (Guess they've figured out I buy lots of
diapers).

8)Online trading. There are a few websites where you can trade coupons with
other people. Say your child drinks Enfamil and you have a bunch of Similac
formula coupons- find a mom with the opposite problem and swap. The only
one I've ever actually used is on Babycenter, but I'm sure there are others.

Thank you to Karissa Rytting, another fine PPN volunteer, for contributing this series of articles on strategies for maximizing the use of coupons.
